The Fool

by Jane Willow

/

about

“This song started as an homage to Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’, exploring country songwriting with a strong vocal in mind, but itquickly evolved. I never intended for it to be a real song, or for me to sing it. But something personal occurred to me and I connected with the song because of it. To me this song is about consent. I wanted to rid myself of the anger I felt. And I didn’t want to feel alone in this hurt. I feel very nervous releasing this song, or speaking about it.
But I know people like the song at live gigs, and it means something to me. And hopefully it will mean something to other people too.”

lyrics

I’ve taken what’s left of this warm eve
But it all somehow still brings me down
With memories of days under the same sun
When you still came around
I gave more I thought I’d care to give
But somehow I’ve been left with nothing to keep
I don’t think the letter sent as you left for good
Did anything for me

CHORUS ‘Cause if it means that much to me
How come it doesn't mean that much to you
Oh honey I’m the fool, the fool, the fool
That keeps running round for more

You spend most your days inside your world
Boy, when do you take time just to think of me
And you’re stretched on my bed as the night
Tries to take me in, but I just have to leave things be
Oh now don’t tell me I never knew about pleasure
How can I give you this pleasure when it’s causing me pain
I cannot satisfy a need when it’s not what I desire
Since when did you become so very vain

CHORUS ‘Cause if it means that much to me
How come it doesn’t mean that much to you
Oh honey I’m the fool, the fool, the fool
That keeps knocking on your door
And if I give so lovingly
How come you often take so carelessly
Oh honey I’m the fool, the fool, the fool
That keeps running round for more

BRIDGE For more…
For more… Not anymore

CHORUS ‘Cause if it means that much to me
How come it doesn’t mean that much to you
Oh honey I’m the fool, the fool, the fool
I’m done knocking on your door
And if I give so lovingly
How come you often take so carelessly
Oh honey I’m the fool, the fool, the fool
I won’t be running round for more
Oh honey I’m the fool, the fool, the fool
I won’t be running round for more

Not anymore, not anymore
